Grapes

Profile

Clima is an organic, bio-dynamic wine produced from a vineyard planted on what was historically the sea bed of the Atlantic ocean, west of Lisbon. Using a blend of indigenous grapes this wine has lots of character. minerality that takes you right back to the vineyard ,and makes this an excellent example of a Red wine from the region

Vinification

Vale da Capucha, belonging for several generations to the Marques family, is located in Turcifal, in the area of Torres Vedras, 8 km from the sea, in a clay-limestone soil with a large number of fossils and in a humid climate, with mild temperatures, white wines and delicate and fresh reds. Pedro Marques, with the restlessness of those who like to create, began to replant in 2006, when he took the lead in production, which was started by his bishop who at the time had dedicated himself to producing red varieties and sold the wine in bulk in the taverns of Greater Lisbon.

They reduced drastically the quantity, privileging the white varieties by the Atlantic climate, planting as base Fernão Pires and Arinto, complemented by Viosinho, Arinto, Gouveio, Antão Vaz and Alvarinho, and in red Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Castelão and Syrah. In order to reinforce the character of the whites, they spend at least 2 winters in the vats, allowing them to put in a bottle a more accomplished wine, with a good marriage between the volume of the mouth, the aromatic complexity and the acidity.

Wine maker

Pedro Marques is an oenologist who knew how to get rid of the oenological excess because he is, first and foremost, passionate about wines, with openness and a lot of proof. He quickly realized the need to work in a more natural and handmade way to make good wines, observing and respecting the intrinsic characteristics of his Atlantic and limestone terroir.
